Exploring the most important conservation initiative ever

Brief

David Attenborough called the Millennium Seed Bank “the most important conservation initiative ever” – yet it’s not very well-known amongst the general public. Wakehurst wanted to increase awareness of the initiative, and give opportunity to those who can’t visit to understand the process of storing seeds for conservation.

Approach

We created a hero film that acted in part as a virtual tour; by filming the scientists behind the conservation project across two days we guided our viewer through the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst as if they were undergoing a private tour. We also created social first videos to help raise awareness of the Millennium Seed Bank with the general public and encourage visits to Wakehurst.

Outcomes

The full length film is played in the Millennium Seed Bank daily helping to explain their processes to visitors. The full film has been received well by both the communications team and the scientists – showing that it strikes the right balance of being educational and entertaining. The film was also used as part of a wider PR push.
