Conversations with Young People

Versus Arthritis

Co-created

with young people, teachers and physios

Brief

Young people with arthritis sometimes struggle to balance management of their condition with their education. But there’s lots that can be done to support young people with arthritis through school; Versus Arthritis wanted a suite of videos to help teachers, friends and people with arthritis get the best out of their education.

Approach

We wanted to hear directly from young people with arthritis to understand their experiences at school, give visibility to the condition and drive a sense of community for those with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. To do this we cast a diverse group of young people with arthritis from all around the country and worked collaboratively with them, physiotherapists and teachers to draft our key talking points. We blended one on one interview footage with group conversations to give the films a warm, conversational and authentic feel and to help our young people feel comfortable on the day.

Outcomes

The series of films recently launched by Versus Arthritis have also been adopted by nurses, physios and educators around the country – shown at key conferences as well as in the classroom. Our young people who co-created the project were thrilled with the end films, and have used them to help their schools improve their processes too.
